That's not a good support for the case. BTW, the 2007 vault is LESS twisted into the ground. I have (I really have) gotten screenshots of it, that make it look short also. It's very easy. If you go by the very first contact of extended leg with mat. You'll see twist still going on (in body and legs).

However, that's not relevant as the actual LANDING happens square.

And I'm not trying to make points about Fei's vault to make Shawn look better. This is a dynamic of twisting into the mat. You are obsessing about a snapshot that is too early in the process.

And yes, it is better to finish the twist first rather than twist into the mat. No duh. But it's not disqualifying. The actual twist IS being finished. She's not landing and then stepping it around.

It's actually helpful to look at SEVERAL vaults by several vaulters who do this effect to different extents. It's not about defending Shawn or going after her. It's about analyzing motion. Instead you are jumping to conclusions based on a little snippet of stuff that you got on a message board.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4853910058498686654.post-81968489207079586462008-07-27T13:10:00.000-07:002008-07-27T13:10:00.000-07:00TCO- For someone who claims to be the "world's exp...TCO- For someone who claims to be the "world's expert of Amanar landings" and someone who has apparently spent hours looking at these Amanar landings from Shawn and Cheng, I am quite dumbfounded (no offense) that you can't see that Shawn's Amanar is short. Like I said, she's not that short but "not that short" is doubtful to cut it front of the presumably strict judging panel at the Games, and those judges should technically not be crediting any vaults (or twists of any kind) if the feet are not perfectly square on landing. Johnson's Amanars throughout the Nationals and Olympic Trials have thus far not been all the way around, and USAG judges have always been known to score top gymnasts generously. Those screen shots posted on the WWGYM "Shawn's Amanar" forum should be enough evidence IMO. You say Shawn twistis into the ground, but can you please elaborate on why that ISN'T considered underotation? I was much too speculative in my MAG post (I am obviously a much bigger WAG fan), so I am more than happy to give you that.Shawn's Amanar, however, could very well be downgraded in Beijing. I am not saying it WILL be downgraded, just that there is a solid possibility that it will be marked down if she keeps landing the vault a tad short of full rotation like she has been. And I am hardly the only person out there that thinks Shawn's Amanar rotation is sketchy.MRRhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04622561143693687606noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4853910058498686654.post-31979864474992005772008-07-27T11:44:00.000-07:002008-07-27T11:44:00.000-07:00when studying amanars i always pause the video a m...when studying amanars i always pause the video a million times to try to catch them not completing it. and honestly, it takes me 3-4 tries to get one shot of shawn cheating it. They twist INTO the mat. You CAN capture a snapshot of all of them that make it look like they are landing short with their inside leg coming down first (just starting to depress the mat) and their body rotating and other leg following. But if you look a split second later with ALL of them, you will see that the twisting INTO the mat has continued and the feet are together, pointed down range, with the knees bending and the actual landing taking place. (Note this is not from a step, it's just that the gymnast is twisting into the mat.) Then a split second later, momentum of twist cause the outside foot to make a very characteristic step forward and accross the body.
